We are proud to call Lafayette home, not just because of everything going on here, but because of the respect we have for its diverse population.  Our respect for you, our patients, constitutes one of the primary reasons that we’ve opened a pain management clinic in Lafayette for those looking for “pain management near me.” Our pain specialists offer you and countless others the help you need to overcome acute injuries and learn how to better manage chronic pain so that you can go back to enjoying everything the city has to offer.

    Our Mission

As one of the leading facilities employing pain management doctors in the area, our goal is to provide patients with the resources they need to improve their lives and learn how to live beyond their chronic pain. We firmly believe that since each of our patients is different, each one deserves an accurate, detailed diagnosis and a treatment plan designed to meet their unique needs. That’s why we offer everything from advanced diagnostics to physical therapy and even customized pharmaceutical formulations on-site at our state-of-the-art facility.

    Understanding Chronic Pain

Pain is your body’s way of telling you that something has gone wrong. When it is the result of an acute injury such as a pulled muscle, a broken bone or even a cut or scrape, the pain should be alleviated once the injury has healed. Chronic pain is different, though.
Patients who suffer from chronic pain find that their bodies continue to hurt, even after the initial injury has healed. Often, this pain is due to an underlying medical condition such as arthritis, spinal stenosis, cervical radiculopathy, diabetic neuropathy, nerve damage or cancer. It’s important to recognize the importance of treating these underlying conditions when it comes to improving your overall quality of life.
Ongoing pain can take its toll on you in more ways than one. Of course, no two patients experience pain in exactly the same way, with some reporting a dull ache where others, even those with the same condition, would describe a burning or stinging sensation. Many patients also report secondary symptoms such as fatigue, stiffness, lack of appetite and energy, the development of sleep disorders, mobility issues, and sometimes dramatic mood changes.

    The Importance of Multidisciplinary Care

Given the variety of ways in which pain can impact our patients’ lives, it should be obvious that coming up with an adequate treatment plan requires a wide array of medical, manual and educational interventions. These may include the prescription of pain medications or muscle relaxants, physical therapy, massage, trigger point injections, biofeedback therapy, exercise and nutrition counseling, or a wide array of other treatment modalities. Ultimately, we know that patient education lies at the heart of just about any successful treatment plan, which is why we will work with you to explain every step we help you take along your road to better pain management.

    Conditions Treated

Part of the reason that our pain treatment doctors work together to offer a wide selection of treatment modalities is that we treat an astonishing number of different conditions. Some of our patients head to our clinic looking for help recovering from automobile accidents, workplace incidents or acute sports injuries. Others struggle with neuropathy pain, headaches, arthritis, nerve damage or spinal problems for months, or even years.
A surprising number of Americans, many of whom live right here in Lafayette Parish, struggle with chronic back pain, neck pain and headaches without realizing that these symptoms are often caused by underlying spinal problems. Some patients, especially those with back and neck pain, put off going to the doctor because they believe their only medical options will be to undergo dangerous surgeries or begin regimens of sometimes equally dangerous prescription painkillers. In reality, we offer an entire array of minimally-invasive therapies designed to maximize your range of motion and minimize pain without the need for potentially dangerous surgical interventions.
If you’re struggling to manage your pain and perform daily functions, or you’ve found that your pain is getting in the way of your ability to enjoy life, you’ve come to the right place. We can provide everything from joint pain relief to help with managing the pain associated with cancer and its treatment. No issue is too large or too small for our team of dedicated doctors and medical professionals.

    Diagnostic Capabilities

Many of our patients come to us without a formal diagnosis of their underlying condition, which is why we have an entire suite of diagnostic imaging machines on-site at our facility. There will be no need for you to be referred elsewhere for radiographic imaging, computed tomography, electroencephalogram testing, electromyography testing or laboratory testing. Our medical staff can perform these tests right here in our office, offering a level of convenience and efficiency that simply isn’t available elsewhere in the area.

    Treatment Modalities

As noted above, the pain treatment plan prescribed by your doctors will be tailored to your underlying condition, mobility capabilities and level of pain. It will be based primarily on the results of a thorough medical examination and patient history. If you’re looking for headache relief, for example, the first step will be to determine whether your headaches are a primary condition or a secondary condition resulting from another underlying disease or disorder.
Some forms of recurrent and chronic headaches are brought on by specific triggers, so the first step in treating primary headaches is to identify your unique triggers and help you come up with a plan to avoid them. We can also prescribe medications that can alleviate your pain and suggest forms of physical therapy, biofeedback, and manual therapy that will help to prevent it from recurring. Similarly, if you are suffering from back pain, we will come up with a lower back pain treatment plan that addresses the underlying issue causing your pain and its negative impact on your daily life.
Keep in mind that the conditions and treatment modalities described above constitute only a small percentage of what we do at SHIPS medical. The bottom line is, if you need pain relief and are struggling to take your life back, we can help.
